Ok, So I May Need Coffee

I was telling my kids this morning that I probably wasn't going to make coffee because:

1.  I don't really like the taste.  Unless it has so much cream and sugar in it that it becomes something else.

2.  I tend to gain weight when I drink coffee (see #1).

3.  Coffee doesn't really make me feel more alert, anyway.

I decided what the heck, I'll make some coffee.  So I measured some whole beans and dumped them in the filter and added water.  That was my first clue.  My kids were like, "Ummm, yeah..."

THEN while waiting to have my coffee, I was talking to my oldest about shipping guitars internationally, because she's selling one on ebay, and I said, "It's totally do-able.  Your uncle sent his Stradivarius to...." then I forgot the word for a minute, so I came up with...  "English."

She just stared at me, "Mom. Stratocaster. England.  Just stop talking."

Then they were like, "Omg, what is she going to be like when she's really old?"

Meanwhile she totally drew a cartoon me to illustrate, and put it on her comic blog.

In the meantime, I said about three more totally wrong things, then I had to do some other stuff, and now my coffee's cold, so if there are wrong words here, too, I apologize.  Maybe I'll start over and have an iced coffee...

Nice to know I'm not a special snowflake, and I probably need coffee as much as the next person, but seriously??  Wrong words??

  1. I do that sort of thing constantly -- the kids laugh at me. And I don't drink coffee so I do it all day long! Maybe some day when I get some sleep it will get better if it's not too late.

    1. I know. I must be tired-er than usual this week, because today I did this word-mixup a lot. And I may or not may not have fallen asleep in the porch swing this afternoon. Maybe I really AM 120 years old...

  2. Phfft...I do that all the time. I also have a very pronounced stammer when I'm stressed or tired. My sons have their own special way of teasing me when I stammer. The older one calls me porky pig and the younger one calls me stuttering Stanley..talk about snowflakes.

    1. Yeah, that's probably what it was: overly tired, mentally and physically. Or early onset dementia...

  3. At least you got out a word for what you meant. Lately in mid-conversaton I can't come up with a word and I will sit there silent for an uncomfortable length of time until it comes to me. Coffee doesn't help me in these moments, probably because I take it like you, cream and sugar with a splash of coffee.

    1. Yep-- splash of coffee. I may as well just make hot chocolate...and I often do instead.

Love the sitting there silent waiting for the word to come. I sometimes have words I can't remember (or names), and they always come to me at like 2 a.m. "SAMSONITE. I was way off."

  4. This made me laugh out loud, and then your daughter's cartoon made me laugh even harder.

    1. Thanks! You just made *both* our days-

Making people laugh is like...really good coffee. :D

  5. Don't feel alone -- I always forget words. I'll be like, "So then the...you know, that THING. The thing that is on a car? It's made of rubber and is on the road?" My kids will say, "You mean a TIRE??" Yes -- yes, that is exactly what I mean.

    1. I totally do that! "The thing in the middle of the black part. The round shiny part. WHEEL. YES."

Kind of comforting to have a little preview of how I will be when I'm *actually* old.
